Most cameras at the time had a focussing rail instead. Somewhat unusual, the camera had rail along which the shutter and lens were extended, but the actual focussing mechanism was a helical focus system on the shutter board. An example of these was the Agfa Standard, an elegant folding camera available in a range of sizes for different film formats. Agfa Standardīefore the Karat series, Agfa mainly produced various folding and box cameras, the most common cameras at the time. Personally I think that, with the exception of the Ambi Silette and some of the folders, they miss the appeal of the Karat series and I don't own many (but has grown considerably since first writing this). The Agfa Karat was only one of the many lines of cameras Agfa produced, it developed many other ranges including the Isolette and Record 120 rollfilm folding cameras, the collapsible lens Isola and the 35mm Silette and Selecta series.
